Autumn Winter 2024 Runway
The Feng Chen Wang Autumn Winter 24 collection transforms tea culture into a design language, demonstrating respect for nature and traditional culture while conveying independent thinking on contemporary values. Varied in form and colour, Wang represents a sense of freedom and a confident attitude for the community that appreciates her work.
Autumn Winter 24 collection echos tea which was the starting point for the designer this season. Looking at the process of making tea which is extremely important to Wang’s cultural background. Deep mossy greens which originated as a traditional Chinese watercolour painting by Wang, digitally applied to the garments, a physical representation of the tea leaves found in Fujian. Earth browns come from the roasting process which the tea undergoes. Rich caramels and deep burgundies show the brewing stages of the loose tea.
Tea sets are also cleverly interpreted as handbags, adding a playful element to the collection. The new bamboo bags and wooden handbags inject a rich Chinese cultural hue. Glasses this season feature bamboo arms, a symbol which has become synonymous with the brand.
The silhouettes for Wang have past been louche and relaxed, this collection has a feeling of restraint, inspired by corsetry, waists this season are defined through pleats, belts on shin length coats and laces which have been cleverly strung into a classic tailored jacket.
Focusing on silhouettes, bringing a new wave of character to the Feng Chen Wang brand - the wearer has matured and developed, much like a perfectly steeped Wuyi Rock Tea, however the collection still has Wang’s rebellious nature and evocative characteristics.
Centred around the ‘white shirt’ - Wang has stripped the piece back to its simplest form and reinterpreted the wardrobe staple for every occasion. This season, worn under a Denim tailored suit which evolved from the designer’s Spring Summer 24 collection, features pleats at the knees and more notably the waist - another emphasis for the collection this season. Silhouettes have been refined and a sense of maturity heightens the collection.
The collection also sets the scene for Wang’s most recent collaboration with Converse. The creative design features a teapot inspired 3D sole, showcasing Wang's profound understanding and innovative expression of tea culture. The 2 in 1 Chuck 70 which debut on the runway will be available for release on 18 January as a ‘seen on the runway’ offering for a limited period at fengchenwang.com. The Chahu 3D moulded sole, for the first time will also be available for preorder.
