Autumn Winter 2025 Runway
2,500 years ago, a masterpiece called Shan Hai Jing captured the world’s imagination. It painted vivid pictures of majestic landscapes, fantastical creatures, and mysterious realms that teetered on the edge of dreams and reality. Its origins and authorship remain a mystery, but it stands as a testament to ancient China’s boundless imagi-nation and curiosity about the unknown.
For Feng, the wonder and curiosity of childhood never faded. In fact, they grew over time. Inspired by her roots in Chinese art and culture, she spent her early years immersed in calligraphy and traditional painting, surrounded by ink, paper, and brushes. These tools naturally aided her in transforming endless inspiration into tangible forms.
The Feng Chen Wang Autumn/Winter 2025 collection echoes the spirit of Shan Hai Jing, capturing the designer’s unique vision for the season. At its heart are mythical beasts, reimagined as handcrafted ceramic sculptures in collaboration with the artisans from China’s ceramic capital, Jingdezhen. These “Feng-esque creatures”, with their flowing glazes and fragile forms, embody a harmony of perfection and imperfection, a detail well-adored by the designer. Their prints appear throughout the collection – woven into fabrics, printed onto designs, and emerging from earthy tones and vintage denim.
Outerwear is a focus this AW25 season with a range of diverse offerings from light to heavy styles to cater for a global consumer. Tailoring continues to play a key part within the collection, championing the classic Feng silhouette, but with the introduction of new fabrications, such as a bonded neoprene tech which imitates traditional wool aesthetics that convey the strength and fluidity, channeling the legends of Shan Hai Jing.
Traditional Chinese ink paintings have been the core inspiration for the creation of bespoke ‘in house’ Feng Chen Wang fabric’s, these have been hand painted and showcased throughout the collection.
One highlight is the reinterpretation of UGG’s new Tasman Lug shoes, which transform into wearable sculptures inspired by these mythical creatures–blurring the line between reality and fantasy. This collection also features the signature bamboo bag with painterly, multicolored effects reminiscent of traditional Chinese ink painting.
Shan Hai Jing is an endless scroll of myths, unfinished and infinite…. Feng’s personal journey of boundless creativity may just be beginning its first chapter…
