COLLABORATION

FENG CHEN WANG X CONVERSE

An ongoing collaborative partnership with Converse that incorporates Feng’s signature deconstruction design approach. Each season aims to reflect our inner self with an open invitation to both challenge, explore and overcome the unknown that confronts us.

Continuing to re-iterate Converse’s sport classics, the Feng Chen Wang x Converse Jack Purcell manifests Feng’s heritage and identity – both conceptually and physically. The design revises the dimension and volume of the classic Jack Purcell silhouette’s upper, altering the traditionally slim profile – combining the use of suede and leather and exaggerating the contours with signature layering created by interpreting ‘Feng Chen Wang’ in three Mandarin character (王逢陈). Each character is deconstructed and designed as a pattern piece that embodies the silhouette’s upper – to depart and celebrate both Feng and Converse’s heritage and identity.

A collection that explores the intersection of opposites; fabrics, colours and techniques which focuses on asymmetrical construction – creating a composition that provides added dimension with an acute focus on material, structure and reflectivity.

Spring Summer 20 collection takes its inspiration after a visit to the Converse archive in Boston, USA. Upon coming across the A-6 Pilot Winter Flying shoes, Feng was fascinated with its level of functional and utilitarian design: the belt loop straps, rubber inserts, zip-lock tongue and contrasted materials. This discovery developed a story that connotes the spirit of the explorer – where fearlessness and daring traits come to the forefront of the collection.

Reworking the classic Chuck Taylor 70 High Top silhouette with an elevated rubber sole and articulated overlaying panels. Featuring full grain leather construction, 35mm rubber taping, and OrthoLife insoles. Available in White and Carbon Grey colourways.

As part of Converse’s Reimagined campaign, the collection’s concept takes its roots in Converse’s Chuck Taylor and ERX basketball silhouettes. The collection blends the basketball history and culture with streetwear, capturing the freedom in attitude of today’s youth – highlighting female empowerment and rebellion.

Feng Chen Wang was invited to be part of “Spark Progress” campaign by Converse, spotlighting five London based female creatives in the creative community, documenting an intimate glimpse into Feng’s creative process during London Fashion Week Men’s.

To celebrate the launch of the Feng Chen Wang and Converse collaboration, a retrospective exhibition titled, “This is my journey through life” was shown during Shanghai Fashion Week alongside a runway show.

The exhibition showcased a narrative installation; 8 rooms that reflect and unfold the stories behind each collection from Spring Summer 16 to 19, alongside a glimpse into Feng’s personal life story.
